Democracy & Pluralism in Israel presented by Dr. Mercaz Director YIzhar Hess
Sunday, March 30 | 11:00 AM
in person and via Zoom

As members of Congregation Beth El, we are in a unique position to support Israel and demonstrate our values as Diaspora Zionists. It’s time to vote in the World Zionist Congress elections.

Perhaps you’ve never heard of the World Zionist Congress elections before now. Every five years, the World Zionist Organization conducts a vote of Diaspora Jews for representation in the Zionist Congress of the Jewish people. This vote, which every Jewish adult can cast, is a tangible, important tool that Jewish communities around the world have to express confidence in the future of Israel.

The election results seat elected slates from Jewish organizations world-wide in the Zionist Congress which has oversight responsibility for over $2 billion annually raised from Diaspora Jewish communities and spent in Israel by non-governmental organizations.

MERCAZ USA is the American slate of the Conservative/Masorti movement for the World Zionist Congress. This means your vote for the MERCAZ USA slate in these elections gives voice to the values we affirm as members of Congregation Beth El.

MERCAZ USA works with its global counterparts to enable Jewish people of all backgrounds to realize the Zionist dream of a secure, pluralistic Jewish and democratic Israel for generations to come. In the aftermath of October 7th, our votes for democracy and Jewish pluralism matter a great deal and will also support hostage families and the rebuilding destroyed communities, as well as support Jewish and Zionist education worldwide.

Join us in person at Congregation Beth El or on Zoom (link available after RSVP) to meet Dr. Yizhar Hess, Vice Chairman of the World Zionist Organization, and learn about the issues and importance of this election. Dr. Yizhar Hess is also a former Executive Director of the Masorti/Conservative Movement in Israel, a traditional, egalitarian and pluralistic vision of Israel and Judaism.

Dr. Yizhar Hess represented the Masorti Movement in the negotiations with the Israeli government regarding egalitarian prayer at the Kotel, and he is one of the leading voices in Israel promoting Jewish pluralism. Dr. Hess is a member of the Executive of the Jewish Agency, and the Board of Governors of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
